Bamboo and Eczema

Bamboo and Eczema

The Constant Battle

Babies and eczema frequently go hand in hand. They haven't been exposed to the world for long and their skin is more prone to dryness, irritation, acne, and a myriad of other complaints. You can help mitigate many of these issues by choosing products that are more gentle on your little adventurer's skin while they build up their resistance.

Choose Your Weapons

Gentle products, free of dyes and perfumes, are the best place to start. That means choosing laundry detergent that is free and clear and says hypoallergenic on the label - we personally use All Free and Clear for Sensitive Skin, and while we don't add fabric softener when we wash our bamboo we do really like the Downy Free and Gentle  fabric softener. We don't have any affiliation with either brand, we just found what works best for us (and the amount of laundry we do as a family).

This also means looking for hypoallergenic soaps and lotions, especially for your Newbie. We found CeraVe Baby Wash and Shampoo while my oldest was going through Chemo and its dye free, fragrance free formula worked amazingly for both her and our at-the-time baby. No more red flakey arms and knees here! Doubling up with CeraVe Lotion and skin issues were down to almost nothing - except around her wrists, tummy, thighs, and ankles.

Equip the Right Armor

And this is around the time we really started discovering the world of bamboo mixed fabrics. Where cotton and polyester wouldn't stretch enough to accommodate her growth spurts and would chafe against the skin wherever they held snug, bamboo rayon and modal had no such issue. Not only that, but the extra elasticity meant I no longer had to pin and wrestle a frustrated alligator every time she had to get dressed - there was no need to contort her arms and legs to get her outfits on. Less stress, less mess, and way less chafing. No more toddler screaming and pulling at the waistline of everything she wears is a beautiful thing.

Parents and dermatologists agree, bamboo viscose is a great option when trying to prevent pain and discomfort from skin issues for your little one. The friction from rough fabrics causes irritation, especially against already vulnerable skin. Once muscle control kicks in this can cause your Newbie to scratch, rub, and further irritate breakout areas. Bamboo viscose is so gentle they'll barely feel it, and will certain reduce the urge to itch!

Add in the naturally cooling effect of the bamboo fibers, which will further help prevent triggers such as sweating and heat rash, and you'll understand why so many parents are drawn to bamboo as their primary wardrobe option!
