- Exceptionally Breathable Material
This means that even in warmer weather the chances of overheating are much lower. While styles vary greatly for all seasons you can usually get away with wearing convertible rompers even in temperatures averaging between 70f-80f (but always be sure to check your little’s neck for sweat, some babies naturally run hotter and you can’t always tell by feeling their hands and cheeks)
- Excellent for Sensitive Skin!
Bamboo Viscose fabrics are renowned for their ability to help prevent chafing, rashes, and even greatly reducing symptoms of eczema in even the worst cases. Many children with especially sensitive skin issues have found relief in having a wardrobe and even their bedding made entirely of bamboo viscose – which sometimes may seem a bit extreme, until you see the breakouts when they change to wearing a different material. This may not be the only option in every situation, but it can be life changing for those who benefit from it.
- A Gentle Sensory Experience
A lot of people – adults and children – struggle with sensory overload. Too many lights, too much noise, the textures of certain objects. As a mom with sensory integration issues myself bamboo viscose was like magic. Carrying a baby, being a human jungle gym to a toddler, and everything else that comes with having littles can cause parents to become touched-out pretty often. Bamboo viscose was actually introduced to me by a medical assistant who became a fast friend after she found out I had so many issues with physical contact and I’ve never had an easier time with a fabric in my life. Because its not only buttery soft but incredibly elastic it doesn’t have the same chafing feeling that most fabrics do – after over a year of it being a constant in my home it has yet to irritate me. Little ones love it too – its great for snuggling with, carrying around, using as crib sheets, and playing peek-a-boo. We even dressed a couple of stuffed animals in pieces my little outgrew.
- UV Protection Included!
Bamboo viscose blocks 98% of UV light, which ranks it as a UPF 50 sun blocker. That means you don’t have to worry about your little adventurer’s skin feeling the harmful effects or the sun through their clothing, even while its thin and breathable enough to keep them cooler than other less effective fabrics. They should still wear sunscreen and a hat to cover exposed areas but with sleeves and trousers that’s a lot less surface area to worry about!
- Bamboo is more Sustainable to Grow
Bamboo as a plant is a type of tall grass that grows and spreads rapidly. It also does not require pesticides as it has anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties naturally. It can be harvested without removing the whole plant, which means the root system remains to help prevent soil erosion, and it takes in more carbon dioxide and releases more oxygen into the air than many plants used in the textile industry. The source plant itself is a more sustainable option than almost any other plant used in textiles, next to organic cotton and hemp, and possibly beech tree cellulose (though beech trees are not always guaranteed to be harvested from sustainable forests.) As far as sustainable options go, this plant is high on the list
BUT
The Dirty Little (maybe not so) Secret
In the interest of full and honest transparency, while bamboo itself is an incredibly sustainable plant to grow, turning it into a material suitable to turn into the fabrics we know and love it may cancel itself out. Rayon requires a chemically intensive process that can cause health problems for those manufacturing the fabric itself long term, and can pollute the water as much as any other synthetic textiles. While we currently work within the system, as we grow and gain the ability to branch out and influence change Newblette Attire is committed to searching for more sustainable solutions within our means. This means that we will begin offering a variety of fabric options, as well as seeking out manufacturers who practice close-looped processing (so that contaminated water is used multiple times and disposed of appropriately rather than re-entering the waterways) and that the employees are given adequate protection against the chemicals used in the process. We are not the only company with this goal in mind, and I know that when we are all able to work together we can create a more sustainable – and luxuriously comfortable – world for everyone.
